Sawah

Sawah is a large private estate rooted in the living landscape of Bali. Positioned directly on the rice fields, with Mount Agung rising to the north-east, the villa stretches horizontally across the terrain its green roofs merging with the surrounding paddies, its reflection caught in still water.

The plan is organized across two levels with quiet precision. A 160m² pool runs along the heart of the ground floor, flanked by a zen garden, open living spaces and a games room, all breathing through natural north-south ventilation. On the upper level, the master suite, gym, cinema room and outdoor terrace orient themselves toward the mountain framing the horizon as the ultimate architectural gesture.

Inside, the atmosphere shifts. Volcanic stone, dark timber, woven screens and low platform beds lit from beneath compose a world apart where Balinese rawness meets Japanese restraint. Heavy materials, controlled light, deliberate silence.

A house that does not compete with its landscape. It belongs to it.
