We do not design for effect. We design for the people who will inhabit the spaces we make — for the light that enters each morning, for the textures felt at arm's reach, for the silence of a well-proportioned room.
Ankatana is an architectural practice based in Ubud, Bali. Our work spans architecture, engineering, interior design, furniture and the careful restoration of what already exists. Each project begins with listening — to the land, to the climate, to those who will live there.
Ubud, Bali — since 2012
Bespoke furniture and crafted objects designed and produced in Bali — pieces that are conceived as part of the architecture, not additions to it.
Start a journeyEvery piece of furniture we design begins from the same question as our architecture: what does this space need, and how should this object serve it? We work with local craftspeople in Bali to produce furniture that combines traditional material knowledge with contemporary spatial sensibility.
The result is a collection of pieces that feel considered, durable and inseparable from their environment.
Furniture designed specifically for a project — dimensions, material and proportion calibrated to the space.
Teak, reclaimed wood, rattan, stone and metal — chosen for quality, provenance and longevity.
All pieces crafted by skilled artisans in Bali, in workshops we know and trust.
Custom joinery, cabinetry and built-in storage designed and produced as architectural elements.
